SAN LUIS OBISPO BLUES RELEASE 2015 ROSTER

SAN LUIS OBISPO --- The San Luis Obispo Blues would like to announce its roster for the 2015 California Collegiate League season. Coming off one of the best seasons in Blues history, this years team is headlined by a freshman All-American, three Blues returners, four Cal Poly SLO players, and 14 players from the power five conferences.

Freshman All-American shortstop Logan Gray comes to the Blues this summer from Austin Peay where he hit .249 with 36 RBIs and six homeruns in the 2014 season. Before attending Austin Peay, Gray was drafted out of high school by the Kansas City Royals and was ranked as the number one shortstop in the state of Kansas.

The trio of Blues returners includes catcher Mitchell Williams (UAB), infielder Matthew Long (Texas Tech) and right hander Andrew Vinson (Texas A&M),  who helped guide the Blues to a 40-12 record in 2014. Williams, who was drafted in 2012 by the Washington Nationals and headlines the Blues returners maintained a .243 batting average and drove in nine runs last summer in 28 games.

Cal Poly Mustangs third baseman John Schuknecht comes to the Blues along with catcher Brett Barbier and pitchers Robert Ay and Nigel Ward. Schuknecht hit .286 with a home run and eleven RBIs this past year for the Mustangs and spent his 2014 summer in the Northwoods League maintaining a .312 batting average. Barbier is a redshirt sophomore looking to start behind the plate this season and Ay and Ward will finish out their senior year in high school and report to the Mustangs in August after playing for the Blues in the summer.

Other notable players for the Blues this summer include Jacob Patterson (Texas Tech), Cannon Chadwick (Arkansas), Hunter Hargrove (Texas Tech), Nick King (Georgia), and Ryan Sluder (Oklahoma State).

Patterson, a 6-2 185-pound freshman, will look to continue his dominance for the Blues this summer after leading the state of Texas in strikeouts his final two years in high school. Ranked as the 11th high school left-handed pitcher, Patterson threw a perfect game his senior year and finished with 134 strikeouts and 0.33 ERA in 68.2 innings. The right-handed junior Cannon Chadwick played two years at a junior college before transferring to Arkansas. Chadwick finished with a 3-2 record and a 1.14 ERA in 71 innings his sophomore year. This past summer, Chadwick pitched in the Texas Collegiate League and was named the No. 4 prospect in the league.

The Blues will open the 2015 season at home on Friday, May 22 against the San Francisco Seals at 6 P.M. For tickets and more info, call (805) 512-9996 or visit bluesbaseball.com.

JAMIE CLARK GETS NOD FOR 2015 CAMPAIGN

San Luis Obispo Blues Baseball General Manager Adam Stowe has announced that, effective immediately, local resident and business owner, Jamie Clark, will assume the  roll of Head Coach of the 2015 San Luis Obispo Blues.

Clark will be relinquishing his role as a Director on the board of the San Luis Obispo Blues non-profit foundation, a position he has held for the past 4 years, to take over as  the SLO Blues skipper – filling the void created by the departure of Coach Chal Fanning, who left in early September to assume the role of Pitching Coach for Austin Peay  State University. “We are extremely thankful to have had Coach Fanning for all these years. He will be greatly missed,” commented Stowe.

In addition to his duties as Head Coach, Jamie Clark will assume responsibility for coordinating all the Blues recruiting efforts. “I believe we were fortunate to find Jamie  and feel that he is the best fit for our organization at this point,” said Stowe. “His four years of experience in NCAA Division I baseball, and serving on our Board of  Directors will prove invaluable as we make this transition.”

“I feel extremely fortunate to have this opportunity and am whole-heartedly looking forward to this journey with a great organization,” said Clark.  “Talking with coaches  from across the country is proving to be a great experience. I look forward to being a positive influence in the players’ lives and their baseball careers.  I’d like to thank my  wife, Traci, first and foremost for her support throughout this process.”
