* The appearance that players were not as “possessive” of “their” uniform numbers as they are in baseball in recent years, seems to account for the fact that most on this list had multiple uniform numbers. The fact that several played as many as nine or ten seasons for the Blues, and that the team would likely have had two or three different sets of uniforms in that time, might have also resulted in players having more than one uniform number.
