6/26/11, Sinsheimer Stadium, San Luis Obispo, CA - Game #2
The San Luis Obispo Blues (15-5, 12-5 CCL) won their fourth game in a row, sweeping the Glendale Angelenos (12-9, 4-9) in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon.
After beginning the game on consecutive errors and falling to an 0-2 deficit, the Blues bats came alive, sending nineteen batters to the plate in the first two innings on their way to collecting eleven runs on nine hits. Those runs were all the Blues would need as they held on to win the game 11-9.
Catcher Jo Jo Sharrar was the offensive player of the game for the Blues with a game high three hits and four RBI's. Sharrar also scored two runs. The rest of the lineup also contributed in a true team effort as every Blues batter collected at least one hit, three players having multihit games and four scoring two runs each. Other highlights of the game include Austin Flores' base-clearing two-RBI triple in the first inning and Sharrar's off-the-wall double in the bottom of the second.
Southpaw Lars Liguori (1-1) earned his first victory of the season after pitching the fifth and sixth innings in relief of lefty starter Carlos Rodriguez. Liguori allowed only one run and no walks in his two innings of work, striking out one Angeleno. Holding on to an 11-8 lead, reliever Paul Twining was brought in the ninth to close out the game and series for the Blues. Twining delivered, earning his team-leading second save of the season. Other standout pitching performances include Michael Holback striking out the side in the eighth inning, allowing the Blues to hold on to a three-run lead. In total, Holback struck out five batters while allowing only one run and one walk over his two innings pitched.
The Blues travel south to face the Urban Academy Barons (5-14, 5-14) at the Major League Urban Academy in Compton, CA. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM.
