The San Luis Obispo Blues (21-7 overall, 14-7 CCL) defeated the Glendale Angelenos (15-13, 7-13) 6-4 to split a Tuesday night double header after losing the first game earlier in the day.
The Blues scored 3 runs in the 2nd inning to pull even with the Angelenos after they scored 3 runs in the 1st inning, and after 5 innings the score was tied at 4. The Blues then scored one run in both the 7th and 8th innings to take the lead.
Starting pitcher Carlos Rodriquez struck out 10 batters in 4.2 innings pitched, and Josh Frye (2-3) picked up the win for the Blues by allowing just 1 hit in 2.1 shutout innings while striking out 3. Joshua Dexheimer and Harmen Sidhu combined for a shutout inning, and Vince Wheeland (2) struck out the side in the 9th inning to earn the save. Blues pitcher combined for 18 strikeouts in the contest.
Offensively, the Blues got hits from up and down the lineup, highlighted by Brandon Wood, who went 2-4 with a run scored and 2 RBI, including a RBI triple in the 2nd inning. Dylan Gavin and Chad Christensen also knocked in runs for the Blues, and Jo Jo Sharrar scored 2 runs.
The Blues next game in Thursday in the opening day of the Rawlings California Cup, when they play the Menlo Park Legends at 6pm. The gates open at 2 pm, as the OC Pioneers and the San Francisco Seals will be playing the first game of the day at 3pm.
