SLO BLUES 4 @ Team Vegas 5
July 24, 2011, Basic High School, Henderson, NV
The San Luis Obispo Blues (30-12, 21-11) avenged their Saturday night loss to Team Vegas (22-13, 17-12) with a 3-1 victory Sunday at Henderson, NV's Basic High School. Nebraska starting pitcher Travis Huber (4-0) got his fourth win of the season on a six inning, nine strikeout effort. Huber limited base runners, only allowing one run on four hits and two walks.
It was another team effort for the Blues offense, who received contributions from all parts of the lineup with seven different batters reaching base on their way to victory. Third Baseman Chad Christensen led the way with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Other batters of note were second baseman Austin Flores and right fielder Max Homick. Flores had two hits while Homick singled and scored in the fifth inning and also walked twice. Both players also stole a base.
Lefty Lars Ligouri (1-1) came in for Huber in the bottom of the seventh and pitched 2.2 scoreless innings on his way to striking out three batters and allowing only one hit. Texas A and M submariner Kyle Martin (0-2) closed the game out for his fifth save of the season. The Blues pitching staff shut out Team Vegas over the final eight innings, allowing only four hits and six total base runners over that stretch.
The Blues look to win their road and season series with Team Vegas Monday night at Basic High School. First pitch is scheduled for 7 PM.
