The San Luis Obispo Blues (31-12, 22-11) defeated Team Vegas (22-14, 17-13) due to a four-run fifth inning and another impressive performance from the pitching staff. The Blues sent ten batters to the plate in the top of the fifth on their way to collecting four hits and three walks, one of which was to left fielder Chad Christensen with the bases loaded.
Texas A&M southpaw Dylan Mendoza (2-1) earned the win after pitching five innings and striking out four. Cal Poly reliever Michael Holback (1-1) pitched three shutout innings in relief of Mendoza, striking out four and allowing only one hit and one walk. Submariner Kyle Martin (6) got the save for the second night in a row after retiring the side in order to give the Blues the series win two games to one over Team Vegas. Martin leads the team with his six saves.
Left fielder Brannon Champagne and second baseman Adam Frazier continue to set the table for the Blues offense. Both batters finished the night 2-5 with a double and a run scored. Designated hitter Alex Detz and third baseman Austin Flores also had productive nights, each going 1-3 with a walk. Detz also had an RBI single with two outs in the fifth while Flores also scored a run.
The Blues have Tuesday off before returning to action Wednesday afternoon for a 3/6:30 PM double header against the Glendales Angelenos (20-23, 8-23).
