The San Luis Obispo Blues (32-13 overall, 23-12 CCL) split an away doubleheader with the Glendale Angelenos (21-25, 9-24) in Glendale, CA. The Blues lost the first game of the day 2-1 (7 innings), and won the nightcap 8-1 (9 innings).
In the first game, the Blues played strong defense and had solid pitching but had trouble on the offensive end. Paul Twining (1-1) was the tough luck loser, striking out 3 and allowing 2 runs in 5 innings. Joshua Dexheimer finished off the game with a 2 strikeout shutout inning. Dylan Gavin lead the Blues offensively by going 2-3, and Max Homick also contributed an RBI.
In the second game, the Blues bats came alive up and down the lineup. 6 starters had 2 hits apiece for the Blues, and the other 3 starters all contributed 1 hit. Tanner Witt had 3 RBI, and Sal Belfonte, Gavin, Jo Jo Sharrar and Chad Christensen also batted in runs.
Harmen Sidhu (5-0) continued his stellar summer, allowing just 4 hits and 1 unearned run in 6 innings of work. He lowered his ERA to .26 and struck out 6 batters. Josh Frye picked up his second save of the season, pitching 3 perfect innings for the "Ironman" save. Frye struck out 4 to finish the game.
The Blues play their last CCL game of the year tomorrow night vs. the OC Pioneers. The 6pm game is at Sinsheimer stadium, and the gates open at 5pm. The foul balls are free to keep courtesy of Club 24.
