SLO BLUES 11 v. OC Pioneers 2
July 28, 2011, Sinsheimer Park, San Luis Obispo, CA

The San Luis Obispo Blues (33-13 overall, 24-12 CCL) had an offensive explosion to defeat the Orange County Pioneers (18-13, 17-12) 11-2 in their last CCL contest of the year. The Blues were locked in a 0-0 tie throughout the first 5 innings, but scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to take a lead they would not relinquish.

In that 5th inning, Max Homick scored on a throwing error by the pitcher for the go ahead run, and Brandon Wood knocked in Chad Christensen on a RBI single to go up 2-0. The Blues then scored 5 runs in the 6th inning to blow the game open. The inning started out with 5 straight hits for the Blues, and was highlighted by a 2 RBI double by catcher Jo Jo Sharrar.

Carlos Rodriguez (2-0) picked up the win with 5 shutout innings in which he allowed just 2 hits and struck out 4. Jason Freeman (1) picked up his first save of the season in "Ironman" fashion, striking out 7 Pioneers in 4 innings.

Offensively, the Blues had several players turn in outstanding nights. Adam Frazier went 2-3 and scored 2 runs,  Sharrar went 2-5 with 2 RBI and a run scored, and Homick and Alex Detz both had 2 RBI. Tanner Witt, Christensen, and Wood all batted in runs for the Blues.

The Blues play again tomorrow night at 6 pm against the SLO Rattlers. The gates open at 5 pm, and the foul balls are the fans to keep courtesy of Heritage Oaks bank.
