
SLO BLUES 2 v. SLO Rattlers 4

The San Luis Obispo Blues (33-15, 24-12 CCL) dropped another game to the San Luis Obispo Rattlers (23-19-2) on Saturday night. The Rattlers scored three in the top of the 8th inning to take the lead, and the game ended with a score of 4-2.
The Rattlers scored first in the top of the 3rd inning on an RBI single by RF Zack Pecyna. The Blues tied the game in the bottom of the 4th when C Jo Jo Sharrar hit a double to right field, advanced to third on a ground out by 2B Alex Detz, and then scored on a wild pitch. The score remained tied until the bottom of the 7th inning, when the Blues took the lead on back to back doubles down the right side by RF Tanner Witt and 3B Austin Flores.
The Rattlers got ahead again in the top of the 8th inning. CF Jordan Goldsmith led off with a walk, and Pecyna drove him in with a triple to left center. C Brian Gregory hit a sacrifice fly, bringing in Pecyna to take the lead. 1B Marc Flores reached first on a hit by pitch and stole second, and 3B Trevor Nathanson doubled to left field to bring in the final run of the game. The Blues were unable to recover from the Rattlers' two run lead before the end of the game.
Although he struck out six batters in 7.1 innings, starting Blues pitcher Tom Barry (5-3) received the loss for the game after giving up the go-ahead run in the top of the 8th inning. RHP Kyle Martin pitched 1.2 innings of relief, striking out three and allowing only one hit.
The Rattlers' starting pitcher Kirk Fridrich picked up his second win after pitching seven innings and striking out five batters. RHP Andrew Bruder got his first save in his first appearance for the Rattlers this season by pitching two complete innings of shutout relief.
The Blues play their last game of the year on Sunday, 7/31/11, against the SLO Rattlers. The gates will be open at 12:00pm, and the first pitch will be thrown at 1:00 pm. It is also Fan Appreciation Day, so head out to Sinsheimer Stadium to be appreciated on the final day of the season.
