The San Luis Obispo Blues (1-0) opened their 2011 season in front of 714 fans with a 7-2 victory over the SLO Rattlers (0-1). With the win, the Blues improved to 11-5 all-time against their SLO town rivals.
Kyle Brueggemann (1-0) picked up the win for the Blues. Brueggemann pitched 3 innings of relief, striking out 5, and only allowing 2 hits. Starting pitcher John Tiedemann (0-1) was the hard luck loser, as he pitched 5 innings, striking out 8, and only allowing 3 hits. However, the Rattlers defense struggled behind Tiedemann, which led to 3 unearned runs. For the game, the Rattlers had 7 errors, and all 7 runs scored by the blues were unearned. Blues starting pitcher Nick Grim pitched 3 innings, striking out 7, and only allowing 1 hit.
Offensively, the Blues were led by 1B Thomas Bernal who went 2 for 3, scored 3 runs, had 2 RBI's, and a walk. CF Dyaln Candaele went 1 for 5, with 1 RBI, and 1 run scored. RF Tommy Luhrs went 1 for 3, with 1 run scored, and a walk.
The same two teams are scheduled to play again Saturday night, June 4th, 2011. First pitch is at 6pm.
