The San Luis Obispo Blues (3-0 overall, 1-0 CCL) defeated the Orange County Pioneers 4-1 on Wednesday night in its first California Collegiate League game of the season.
Tom Barry (1-0) earned his first victory of the season, giving up 1 run on 3 hits in 5 innings. Travis Huber pitched 3 innings of relief, allowing only 1 hit and no runs. Josh Frye (1) earned his first save of the season, needing just 10 pitches to finish off the Pioneers in the 9th inning.
Offensively, the Blues struck early, scoring three runs in the first two innings. They were led by SS Chad Christensen, who went 2 for 4 with a run scored, a run batted in, and a double. Designated hitter Thomas Bernal and first baseman Jake Jelmini both knocked in runs with sacrifice flies.
The Blues play the Santa Maria Valley Packers tomorrow night at Sinsheimer Stadium at 7:30.
