
The San Luis Obispo Blues (4-0 overall, 1-0 CCL) defeated the Santa Maria Valley Packers 5-4 on Thursday night with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning, breaking a 4-4 tie.
LF Dylan Candaele led off the bottom of the 9th inning with single up the middle. CF Brannon Champagne then laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Candaele to second base. The Packers then intentionally walked SS Chad Christensen. 3B Alex Detx then hit a ground ball up the middle that was misplayed by the Packers second baseman, allowing Candaele to score the game winning run.
Josh Fyre (1-0) earned his first victory of the season, giving up 2 hits in 2.1 innings of relief, striking out 5. Starting pitcher Danny Zandon pitched 3 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 earned run, and recorded 2 strikeouts. Marco Murillo pitched 2 innings of relief, allowing 2 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk, and had 5 strikeouts.
