The San Luis Obispo Blues (2-1 CCL, 5-1 overall) defeated the Orange County Pioneers (2-5, 2-5) for the second time this season on Saturday night, 4-3, in a game filled with clutch pitching and timely hits.
Blues starter Travis Huber (1-0) picked up his first win of the season, pitching out of a no outs, bases loaded jam in the 2nd inning to keep the Pioneers at bay. Michael Holback and Tom Barry finished off the game for the Blues, with Barry striking out the side in the 9th inning to get his first save of the year.
The Blues scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning and 2 runs in the 5th inning, and that was all they needed to hold off the Pioneers. They were led by first baseman Zac Elgie, who went 2 for 3 and knocked in 2 runs on a double in the 2nd inning. Catcher Jo Jo Sharrar also had an RBI in the 5th inning.
The Blues were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but the first game was cancelled due to late Babe Ruth league games. The game will be made up at a tournament later on in the season.
The Blues play a day game tomorrow against the Conejo Oaks at 1 pm inside Sinsheimer Stadium. The gates open at 12, and the foull balls are the fans to keep courtesy of Gray & Troy Insurance Services.
