San Luis Obispo, Calif. — With a no-hitter through five innings, Templeton native Quincy Winkler tossed one of the best starts for the Blues this season.
The Blues collected six runs on eight hits with no errors in the field. Four of the eight hits were for extra bases, with two of them coming off the bat of Dominick Najar. Najar went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one walk, one run scored, and one RBI.
The Blues' pitching staff threw their third shutout of the season. The Blues only used three arms on the night, staying efficient. Winkler started the game, and Troy Cooper and Charlie Feris came on in relief to close it out. The staff threw eight K's, walked four, gave up three hits, but did not allow a single player to cross the plate.
Winkler collected Player of the Game honors and was tagged as the winning pitcher of the night, collecting his first win of the season. When asked how he reacted to throwing a no-hitter, he didn't even know he had one.
"I actually didn't know until I was out of the game," Winkler said. "Thanks to my defense, they made a lot of great plays out there."
Winkler was also able to speak on what it felt like to know he threw one.
"It's definitely cool," Winkler said. "It's just something I can totally build on. It was pretty great."
The Blues hit the road against Santa Barbara for a one-off game on Thursday, with a 4:30 scheduled first pitch. They will look to even the series against the Foresters, with Corbin Geisen taking the mound.
