SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Blues fell to the Foresters for the second time this season after winning the last matchup at Eddie Matthews Field on June 25.
The pitching staff had a rough outing, giving up 11 hits, four for extra bases, walking five and striking out seven. The Blues used five arms on the night, with Corbin Giesen getting the start and the loss. Giesen pitched three innings, giving up four runs on five hits, striking out three and walking no one.
Tre Lagrone and Titus Gocke had nice showings on the day, both pitching two scoreless innings. Gocke gave up no runs on three hits and struck out one. Lagrone gave up no hits, walked one and struck out two.
It was a hard game to keep up with the red-hot Foresters. With six Foresters collecting hits and three going over the fence, the offense couldn't keep pace. Only five Blues collected hits, and no one had multiple. Kevin Spear reached twice, with a single and a walk, to be the most productive Blue on the day. Dominick Najar continued his game from the night before, going 1-for-3, scoring once and stealing two bases.
The Blues face the Foresters again Tuesday at Sinsheimer to try to even the series, with a 6 p.m. first pitch.
The Blues look to round out the weekend with a game against the MLB Barons on Sunday, with a 2 p.m. first pitch.
